Fill
that native plant request with this beauty.
Manfreda can be found in the nastiest, driest
cedar barrens in KY where it thrives.
The foliage is very reminiscent of Aloe Vera without the
copious liquid
when broken. On
some individual plants
there is a wonderful purple mottling on the leaves giving these plants
an
additional angle of interest. The
flowers and their stalks are not overly attractive with the color of
green; but their
size of 6’ and unique
appearance make a great conversation piece in the garden. American Aloe requires
good drainage and a
dry soil, which makes it an excellent candidate for rock gardens. This was proven at Yew
Dell Gardens,
where Manfreda has drawn
significant requests for its identification per
Paul Cappiello.
