Calycanthus x ‘Hertilage Wine’ Hertilage Wine Sweetshrub
Size: 8’ x 6’
Exposure: Full Sun to Part Shade
Flower: Deep Red in June and July
Yet another cross made by Dr. Tome Ranney of NC State. This one, in our opinion, is the best of the Calycanthus crosses to date. Hertilage has a more compact growth habit and more attractive floral display.
The deep red flowers are not completely overpowering, but add another dimension of interest. Other worthy attributes are the large (3” x 6”) leaves that create a very coarse, but pleasing texture and it’s decent, but reliable yellow fall color. H.W. is also very tolerant of heavy soils and drought conditions.
