Velvet was selected by Paul Cappiello and John
Wachter. As they
strolled through
seedlings, they noticed a particular plant with uniform, dense growth
and
wonderful bluish-green foliage. This
was
its start into the horticulture world.
The
plant itself retains a very neat and tidy rounded shape
without excessive maintenance. The
foliage emerges with the bluish-green coloration, which stays for the
duration
of the growing season. They
stay clean
and very attractive the entire time, with little insect or disease
issues.
As
if the foliage of Blue Velvet is not enough to walk
itself out of the garden center, the plant explodes in small ½” “St. John’s Wort” yellow blooms
in clusters about 4”
across. Truly a
spectacular sight to
behold.
